Feeling Good

By Dr. William K. Larkin on June 15, 2009

Yoga_Partners2.jpgDeveloping physical muscle at a gym involves gaining a greater degree of conscious control over the physical body. The Emotional Gym gives a greater degree of conscious control over your emotions, your emotional state, your moods, and your state of mind. State of Mind Management (SOMM) is what the Emotional Gym is really all about. Remember: you have the power to exert conscious control over your emotions, including the means you employ to gain that control

This week, when your brain wanders here and there, wander it down a more positive path of positive emotions. Say each of the following words 50 Barbells.jpgtimes and match them with a little of the emotion. Say "thank-you" 50x, say "gratitude" 50x, say "peace" 50x, say "love" 50x, say "joy" 50x, and then another time during the day do it again. Match the words with a little of the feeling and you will find that the very Center of you will answer back with more of the same state of mind. Do it before you get out of bed and do it before going to sleep. Let go and lose count. Do itVictory.jpg when you walk, do it when you hike or bike or exercise. Do it when you're doing nothing. Do it while you drive. Just do it.

You want most deeply, more than anything else, to "feel good." It's a decision, it's a choice, it can happen today and it can happen without anything in your life changing except you. Then, if you feel good, just watch what goodness comes into your world!

“Just do it” is right on.  I’ve been on a downspiral now for several weeks and I find that the Emotional Gym really does serve to lean me back into a positive direction, into an UpSpiral.  I like where Dr. Larkin says just keep repeating the words as many times as you like and lose track of how many.  That seems to help me to really get into the flow of how I’m feeling and then it’s easier to conjure up emotion to go along with the word instead of thinking about how many times I’ve repeated it.  “Thank you” works well for me, helps me access my gratitude for all of the abundance, beauty and excellence around me.  My boyfriend Rocky says he likes to pulse the word “glad” because it represents a hybrid of gratitude and joy for him.  Works for me !!!

I love being at the CAUSE of my State of Mind Management, rather than at the REACTION.

I’ve had amazing resilience today…a very difficult day… but looked for every opportunity to be GRATEFUL, JOYFUL and PEACEFUL.  And in the searching came the RELIEF I sought…and in the finding came the GRATITUDE, JOY and PEACE.

I think I will say “THANK YOU” as I count my infinite blessings instead of sheep.

My experience with the emotional gym - and ANI in general has allowed my mind and body to build reserves and strength, far beyond anything I have experienced to date.  I recently made the trek back to IL to see my family.  Eight years have passed since I was last there and the joy and gratitude are still overflowing.  I feel that my mind and spirit are just as fortified and in shape as body is from my Pilates.  Visiting all the places of my youth and early life was easy (well mostly) and I feel the overflowing love of my family and the compassion of our current times. Without this idea - and Andy states it very clearly, about being the CAUSE rather than the reaction, I might still be wondering what home would feel like.  I am n flow with source and source is my supply.
